Enthusiasm shown at the Annual Connections Conference June 10 for Wizdom Education web-based solutions to Transition planning

Naperville, IL June 11, 2003 –Wizdom Education, a premier provider of Special Education IEP and Transition Planning software, presented a session titled “The Transition Planning Process – Meeting the Needs of Students, Teachers and Parents Through Web-based Technology” during the Connections Conference at the Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza in Springfield, Illinois June 10. 2003, to an enthusiastic audience of educators and administrators.

The annual Connections Conferences, which is supported with funding from the Illinois State Board of Education, provides technical assistance and professional development for educators across Illinois regarding the planning, development, implementation and assessment of Education-to-Careers and Tech Prep programs. These conferences are held both in St. Charles, Illinois and in Springfield, Illinois each year. Wizdom Education was an invited speaker at both locations.

“The passing of IDEA 2003 will put even more emphasis on the Individual Transition Planning Process (ITP)”, said Dennis E. Wisnosky, Wizdom Founder, who moderated the session along with Philip J. Vitkus. “ Wizdom has proven that Web-based technology can offer a guided yet personal road-map for these tough decisions.”

One enthusiastic attendee said, “I am going back to my School District and immediately begin the application process for grant funds to start the Wizdom Transplanner with my Seventh and Eight Graders next Fall.”

Wizdom’s Transition Planning Process session showed how web-based technology can:

  • help students (and their parents) recognize and deal with the issues of, "What do I want to do?" "Where do I want to live?" "What do I want to do in my free time?" (the latter issue includes - "How do I want to be involved in my community?")
  • set up practical multi-year transition plans that help students meet their goals.
  • cut the time required to research the important local 15-25 community service providers, and yet appropriately connect to the providers as needed.
  • through Wizdom EducationLive! (www.educationlive) automatically connect case managers, students and parents to community service providers with an assurance that the school district has the most current information about the service providers available.
  • meet the needs of students, parents, and schools' obligations, without an undue burden on already time-challenged case managers and vocational coordinators.

Wizdom’s LiveIEP! is an easy-to-use IEP program that puts the power of the web into the hands of special education case managers, and lets case managers and other school staff do work without depending upon network availability. Wizdom’s TransPlanner!, developed with funding by the U.S. Department of Education, helps students with disabilities, their case managers, and their parents do effective transition planning, and bridges the gap that often exists between schools and community service providers.
